the link is very interesting scunner
we first brought a second hand car for £4-5 0000
the paper work was expensive and new plates,
then decided on a new corolla
if we did it again
if you have the cash ,new everytime wins, easy, they deal with all paper work
any engine over 1600 is taxed higher so 4x4 cost to tax about 1000£
a small new car citoeren, yaris, ford, fiat same as uk prices and you know the history of new car.
good luck,ease of servicing,better than antalya,other areas
£10000 for toyota corolla

Can you go into this a bit more for me doll?  When you talk about tax is this a one off payment or do you pay tax annually the same as we do in the UK?  Also is there an equivalent of the MOT test carried out annually or is there a test carried out at the time of selling on?

You're really not sure you can do without a car are you?
-I'm just reading this purely to persuade myself I don't need one. LOL

Doll - Any engine over 1600 - does that include diesel ones?
What about cars which are van derivatives like the Doblo?
If we do eventually get one I'd like the same as we have now a Doblo 1.9 Turbo diesel - are these expensive to tax? As Teresa asked is this yearly or just a once off like the old car tax here on new cars?

Teresa - for 2 people who want to do without cars we certainly know how to ask questions about them. LOL

teresa321the car tax used to be once a year
now its twice a year, cause of improvements to roads etc
on our now 1 year old car it cost us in july 500ytl
then we will have to pay maybe the same amount again in jan/feb
the bigger the engine and the weight of the car is taxed higher, there is a link which discribes the costs
on here somewhere,im just tellin what we pay,
the doblo is popular here and there is a showroom in fethiye
insurance costs us 765ytl(this is from toyota all singing dancing etc)

The car at times is the bane of my life!

Car tax you can request to pay 1 year up front to save going in July and January (1 less day queing)  remember the MOT (said with tongue firmly in cheek) 80ytl (and another queue at the tax office) once a year your mandatory insurance 130ytl as well as your personal insurance. and then of course you car emissions expect to queue for upto 4-5hours, the only consolation here is to get the men to do it and then they are out from under your feet!!  and BTW every car passes this test!!

Link below is slightly dated but a general idea of your car tax for the year.
http://www.otomobul.com/vergi/

you will get a sticker car tax, MOT and insurance to put in your book this is what the police look for when stopping foreigners to fine them, make sure you carry these and your driving licence at all times.  no driving licence 43.50tl fine plus car impounded if the passenger has not got there licence, also they will be checked to ensure that they are a member of your immediate family (can be got round).

Emissions test: dont forget the 1tl ''donation'' (mandatory) for the football ground.

What does the above mean loz? Are you only allowed to have immediate family as passengers?

Sorry not explained well.

After taking friends back to Dalaman 11pm we got nearly back to Fethiye and were stopped as we had the 'driving' lights on (damn cheek when most are driving without any bloody lights) apparently they just wanted to tell us to turn them off, but then asked for Gordon's driving licence, Gordon did not have his so was fined instantly 43.50tl, they asked if I was his wife and did i have a licence, once checked I could drive the car, (I had my licence) so they took Gordon out of the drivers seat and put me in the drivers seat and Gordon in the passengers, then to add insult to injury put the fine in my name because I had the licence!!!  when asked what would happen if i had not my licence they said ''we take the car and put away, and then you pay''  we then asked if i was not his wife what would happen, the officer answered ''only immediate family can drive a foreigners car''!  at this point thought we had better stop asking questions...lol
