Christmas Fundraiser 2021 - Amount raised
« on: January 09, 2022, 19:27:27 PM »
Apologies for any delay. I have been trying to make sure that I had the correct totals.

Firstly, my thanks to scunner (aka Keith Campbell) for the use of the Calis Beach Forum and to Mark R. Henderson (aka supacabby) who pinned posts to the top of the Calis Beach Group on facebook.

After that just what can I say.

Once again I tentatively set out the fill one Advent Calendar that would have raised £ 283.00. But having filled that one, YOU soon filled another calendar and even went on to take all 12 days of Christmas.

And once again (will I never learn) I reckoned without the generosity of the people on here and this year via facebook.

So I am delighted to say that when all the money comes in the total will be £ 921.00. That’s the highest ever total for the Calendars and the 12 Days.

Thank you all so much for helping the underprivileged children.

As I said back in 2013 when I first started this, if a certain someone, who loved helping children, is looking down, smiling and saying "Well done dad" then that will do me.

May I wish you and yours a very Happy, and above all Healthy 2022.

PS I will post a brief list of what the Charity got up to in 2021 when it is to hand.

Fabulous total Highlander. Well done and thank you for all your hard work achieving this.

I'm sure there is a very proud daughter looking down right now   :)

Following a request from hornedfrog here is a list of some of what the Calis Childrens Charity were involved with in 2021. Thanks to CathyH for providing the list.

During the course of this year, some of the projects that we have supported include:

•   specialised laser treatment for a 6 year old at an Istanbul hospital, for a hairy naevus on her face which has also affected the sight in one eye.
Each treatment costs in the region of 8,000tl, and she may need up to 8 treatments.
She also is receiving treatment for the affected eye which is also in Istanbul.
We pay for flights for her and her mum, along with an overnight hotel stay prior to her treatment.

•   A number of young children with autism required special training and therapy to assist their speech and development.

•   A young boy requiring specially made shoes due to his progressive muscle disease

•   Seydikemer and Gerişburnu schools required desks, chairs, books, play areas and art materials.

•   A child whose mother has cancer broke his spectacles which needed replacing.

•   A boy who had a previous cochlear implant which we bought, needed a replacement implant. His family raised some money and the charity paid for the rest.

•   A child living in a remote area needed to socialise as she could barely talk. A psychologist recommended she attend creche in order to learn social skills and talk with other children

•   A student hoping to attend university to study medicine, needed extra help to study for the university entrance exams.

•   A cochlear implant.

•   A child that we previously assisted with costs associated with chemotherapy in Antalya, needed 3 doses of a special vaccine to protect her from Papilloma virus which can lead to further cancers.
She now also requires a specialised hearing aid

•   Goalposts for the Fethiye campus

•   Fire retardant materials for a school roof which was condemned and had to be replaced.

•   We continue to support 15 university students with bursaries

•   A young boy with neurological problems and epilepsy, needed hospital checks regularly in Antalya

•   A slightly different application for  a young man in his early 20's, deaf and blind in 1 eye, needed a hearing aid to help him be able to work

•   a little girl with hearing aids required special education for speech and hearing therapy

A fabulous total in difficult times - your dedication to this is admirable. It's a hell of a lot of lira...

In a remarkable gesture the total has been "topped-up" anonymously to £ 1,000.00.

What can I say ?  :)

Thank you. It is a lot of lira but sadly I fear that the raging inflation may have a significant effect. :(

Well done John, your commitment to this each year is admirable as is the dedication of those involved in the charity.
It is heartwarming to know that the charity supports so many youngsters in different ways.
