Yacht Classic htl/restaurant
« on: May 06, 2019, 11:50:16 AM »
Once again we enjoyed our meal at the restaurant, although season has only really just started. We were surprised to learn that the hotel rooms were sold out weeks ago. We were told that even winter bookings have now passed 80% whereas two years ago we would have been able to reserve any room at short notice. Apparently the Chinese are now in town 12months a year.

Are you saying that in jest or are the Chinese tourists really there year round? I wonder how that happened.

A famous Chinese soap opera star paraglided in Ölüdeniz for the show a few years ago and ever since then the Chinese, Koreans and Japanese have visited this area en masses adding Fethiye to their traditional organised tours of Turkey that includes a number of key sites like Cappadocia, Pamukkale etc.

It was a life saver for many businesses when western tourists stopped coming  in the usual numbers a few years ago.

Your quite right Nicola, furthermore as was the case when the Russians first started to come over to Turkey they would be shoestring tourists, like the Russians they are now getting Chinese tourists with more disposable income.

We visited over Christmas 2017 ( one of the best holidays we have ever had ) and stayed In Oludeniz Calis and Fethiye , the Hotel Unique in Fethiye was fully booked and all the guests were Chinese or Korean apart from us.

The waiter in the Restaurant had a hard job some nights, he was being asked for expensive rare whiskeys which he did not stock. And some plates of food were returned uneaten. Obviously not to some peoples taste maybe it was too different to their food back home.

For us the food was fantastic some of the best we've had in Fethiye, and the Efes was as good as ever  :)
