Turkish Admin v. ECB
« on: May 12, 2015, 18:34:48 PM »
If you thought that Turkish government and administration was a bit ropey then what about the English Cricket Board? They leak that the manager is going to be sacked the day before they appoint the Director of Cricket who is going to sack him. Doh! Then the incoming Chairman announces that if Petersen returns to county cricket and scores runs then the door is open for his return. So he joins a county, scores 355 n.o., and is told, by the new Director of Cricket, that there is no place no him in England cricket. Doh! And there's are another half-a-dozen other similar cases of utter incompetence. So England's best batsman has been led up the garden path and been sh*t upon.

Still, don't worry. England have had a great World Cup in Australia, a triumphant tour of the West Indies, and are going on to a summer of victories over NZ and Oz led by the inspirational captain, Alistair ("one of the lads" ;) Cook.

Ah yes Petersen the well known South African ....oohps sorry.... the well known English batsman, who gets on so well with his team mates and helps generate that so important team spirit.  His absence gives a chance for a real English player to get in the team and doing at least as well as Petersen never consistently did in the international game, or rather when the mood took him!!.  Now where you might want to have a go at the English Cricket Board is that they have failed to develop a large pool of cricket playing youngsters to pick from and develop... and that's down to their ability to breakdown the white middle class and public school dominance playing the game in England.

Also the fact that we are using a foreign player there are similarities with football and the FA vs PL clash on the use of foreigners in the PL, and increasingly in the Championship, in preference to developing young English players, and that includes other so called 'home' international players from Scotland, Wales, NI and more latterly - for some unexplained reason -  the RoI, all of whom should be rightly classed as foreigners.  They should look to their own FA's to do something about the development of their players, like the English FA wanted to do with the Olympic Football, but are stopped from doing so by the other 'home' FAs!!!!!

Well let's see if those well considered thoughts sets this thread alight!!!!!

Yes, you've got the right Petersen Pietersen. The chap who was born in South Africa with an English mother (which qualified him to play for England) and scored 8181 test runs with an average of 47. If only people born in the UK were allowed to play for the England team then there would have been a lot of holes in the line-up over the years: a few being Alan Lamb, Nasar Hussain, Colin Cowdrey, Ted Dexter, the Nawab of Pataudi - and, oh yes, the man that sacked him Andrew Strauss.

It would take a while to produce a full list - apparently there are 61 of them.

And the case for root and branch reform of cricket is made, while the games leadership and administrators can rely on foreigners to bolster the below average performance of English cricket, they will.  Better that than making a real campaign to bring in working class, including those of south asian or west indian descent to the game.
