visa renewal...for idiots!

It may be me, but I have been searching for the process to be followed in order to renew a residents visa, I can find posts from members saying they have completed the process themselves, painlessly, and in just over two hours. What I am looking for is a step by step idiots guide...please could any members let me into the secret of renewing residency on your own. Thanks.

Well, the first step is to stop referring to it as a visa. It's a Residence Permit.
