Tracking a phone

I work almost exclusively for one company on a self-employed basis collecting and delivering vehicles throughout the UK.

I use my own Galaxy S4 and an app supplied by the company to record all the details of damage, mileage etc and also to produce information to allow me to invoice the company for the work done.

Although they deny it, I believe that the company's app is embedded with a tracking device. Whilst I don't  have a problem with this when I'm driving vehicles on their behalf I don't want my private life tracked as well.

Do any of you techies out there know whether it is possible that there is a tracker in an app, and if there is, what do I need to disable on my phone to stop it ?

It's highly possible if you think about apps like Apples find my phone, the only thing that I would say having many years of leading large national sales teams, we looked at some of these products and we took a decision on each occasion not to implement the software. But we were always warned. That like the CCTV cameras we had throughout our office and factories, we had a legal duty to inform people that they were being filmed and the same rule would apply to our sales teams should we go ahead. One less than 'respectable' company told us that they had customers who had installed the system without making it public but any evidence collected would not be legally admissible.

Legally they are not allowed to unless you agree to it.The trackers only show where you have and they cannot access your personal data

I think by accepting the app, we've probably accepted the use of the tracker hidden in T&Cs.

The tracking device needs GPS, surely you can turn that off on the S4.

Yes Baz, I can turn off the GPS. Is that all that needs doing though ?

Dave , I have copied the following from a website ( I just googled how to disable tracker on i-phones),


1Press the "Home" button just below the iPhone touchscreen.

Tap the "Settings" app.

Tap "Mail, Contacts, Calendars."

Tap "MobileMe" in the list of accounts.

Move the slider bar next to "Find My iPhone" from the "ON" position to the "OFF" position. The Find My iPhone app will no longer track your device's GPS location.
