Dental Implants Carried Out in Turkey
« on: January 31, 2013, 07:49:29 AM »
Big Day yesterday, two implants fitted and to be honest, for someone who doesn't get nervous, I was a bit nervous. Cagatay had arranged for an implant specialist to assist him with the procedure, being a typical Brit. I turned up for my appointment 20 minutes early and there was his assistant in the waiting room, who I believe had travelled from Antalya. Before they invited me into the chair, they closed the surgery door and spent 15 minutes in perpetration and sterilisation of the room and equipment. I have to say that I have never seen such high standards of cleanliness, even the handles on the light and regularly used dental equipment were covered in specially made sterile surgical sleeves to minimise any chance of infection. I was invited in, took a deep breath and thought, here we go !
The procedure lasted the best part of two hours, the care and attention to detail shown was amazing, apparently one of the things that needs to be avoided is the implant protruding into a sinus area, they took several X-rays during the treatment to check that their calculations were absolutely precise and a number of oral photographs were taken during the procedure which form part of the record and used by Cagatay to take me through the treatment at the end.

So the big question, Did it hurt?

I will be 100% honest and tell you that I never felt a thing, even the injections to deaden the area were preceded  by a local spray anaesthetic and were painless. There is a lot of tugging, pulling and scraping noise, but honestly, not once did I flinch with pain. I used Ice packs and took the prescribed painkillers last night and awoke this morning, again pain free, there is some slight swelling and tenderness but not the pain I expected.

Don't get me wrong, implant surgery isn't my favourite thing ever and I'm not yet 24 hours into a course of treatment that will go on for several months, but my review is honest and I hope it helps others who might benefit from this sort of treatment but are a worried about the prospect.

Next stage, stitches out, I'll let you know.

Congratulations Rimms and well done for being brave I am sure we would have all been as nervous as you were. It's good that you have let everyone know the procedure as you will have put others minds at rest who are thinking of having implants.
We always tell everyone how hygienic Cagatay's  surgery is and how he is such a perfectionist.   His treatment, IMO is superior to the dental treatment we have experienced in the U.K. and at a much more reasonable price.

Great news George, thank you for posting. I've been thinking of you and wondering how it's all going. I must say he sounds amazing and your post gives me courage for next week when my own treatment begins . .eek!

I wonder if George's treatment might make a good topic on it's own? I could split it from his post of earlier today and make it a new topic - which hopefully he could update as more fangs go in till the process is completed.

I'm thinking that getting dental implants in Turkey is a subject of great interest to many in regard to costs, hygiene, process and pain. To have a separate topic would be quite beneficial to some and this is now tucked away on page 10 of this thread...

Any thoughts?

Definitely - I would love to hear about each step - that would be really good and give many of us a little more courage and confidence.

Well I think it's a great idea, I found all the previous posts really helpful too. It's a topic people are interested in, I know my friends and family here are fascinated that I'm having the work done in Turkey and seem to be keen to see how it all turns out.

Yes me too, people were surprised that my Hollywood smile was enhanced in Turkey. I think friends imagined I was being treated in a desert tent with a Black & Decker. I'll speak to George and I'm sure he'll be up for it.

No problem Keith, my treatment will also include an 11 tooth bridge and maybe some extractions when he finds what's underneath  my current bridge. If there's any other dental treatment people would like me to try ......

George - good luck with the treatment.

Can I ask you is the 11 tooth bridge being secured by the implants?
