One Way Ticket now Purchased

Well, we have been and gone and done it ! One ways booked for Thursday March 1st 2012. Took the Turkish airline option as they now have a same day connecting flight from Istanbul down to Dalaman.

Chris has already packed in work, I go through to the end of the year before retiring (again) then Xmas with the family, Paul Carrack in Liverpool in February and then the big one in March.

It's quite spooky to think that we have to get all of our worldly goods into just 4 suitcases, two in September then another couple in March. I'm sure we will manage.

It's a big step but I guess we can always come back to the UK if things don't work out, we decided not to sell the house, just in case. So roll on March and let the adventure begin.

Good on you George & Chris - I hope everything works out for you both. You know the place well enough now, I'm sure you'll love it. NO OPENING A BAR IDEAS!!! All the best from all of us.

Well done Rimms and may you have a trouble free move.

But how did you manage only 4 suitcases, we have taken over dozens and still have a house full of stuff to get rid of before we make the move.

Went to Africa in around 1981 with 4 suitcases.
1988, 8 steel trunks and a 24 foot sailboat. Abu dhabi to Kemer Turkey.
2000 150 kg excess baggage. Bodrum to Cheadle.
2006, 20 foot container Muscat to Pakistan
2009 20 foot to Qatar
2011 5 suitcases, whife and dog home to Fethiye.

( And I missed a few out) Ups and downs of working overseas.

LOL

You are a professional at this lark Steve, just making a list, so far, Ipod, Nintendo and Laptop. And as for "NO OPENING A BAR IDEAS!!!" absoluteley no chance, working in Turkey simply doesn't seem to work for anyone. I will be spending my time learning a bit of the language, seeing the country and house swapping with friends and family around the UK, Far East and in New Zealand.

Best of luck and all the best for your move Rimms, albeit keeping a bolthole in the UK shows some doubt. Anybody got past about five years in TR whilst retaining a place in the UK I wonder. When you reside here you will knock me back to third place in the longest serving active CBF member living in TR... LOL. But I shall retire from posting in 55days after gaining a wealth of knowledge and leave it to the new members.

Congratulations

I too have brought over any number of suitcases, done the rounds of the charity shops, car boot sales, tip & giving stuff away to friends & family. Just one more trip to go & it's all here at last
