Foodstuffs - Available? If so at what cost?
« on: June 29, 2011, 18:54:23 PM »
Following on from Fastladys topic about what domestic items do members regret leaving behind I was wondering what foodstuffs I might miss out on, or not, as the case maybe?

I am aware of the lack of decent Mature Cheddar Cheese, Cadburys Chocolate, Baileys, Pork Sausages & Bacon, the Cheese would be the thing from that list I would really miss!

Having had a good clear out of my dry food cupboard today I noted the following foods I would prefer not to go without:

Marmite

Crunchy Peanut Butter

Branston Pickle

Colmans Mustard

HP Brown Sauce

Sharwoods Mango Chutney

Are they available in Fethiye? Or shall I bring enough to keep me going for 6 months or so?

& can anyone add to the list of foods they really crave but can't get locally please incase I missed something obvious!

Thanks in advance,

Mark.

Marmite - No

Crunchy Peanut Butter - No, only smooth

Branston Pickle - Don't think so, Mrs R makes all our chutney and   pickles

Colmans Mustard - Yes but very expensive

HP Brown Sauce - Yes, Kippa etc but more expensive than Tesco etc.

Sharwoods Mango Chutney - Not seen it, I refer to my answer above

Things I crave you defo cannot get here are; Black pudding, crunchie's, shredded wheat, stilton (Danish Blue does not count)malt loaf and drill bits that don't go blunt or snap the first time you use them!

Thanks for the reply Eric, best get to Asda & stock up then!

Can I help with some drill bits for you in my August freight delivery? Happy to get some decent high tensile steel ones of various sizes, or let me know exactly what you require, if that helps.

One piece of advice from an old pioneer of living abroad Supa  ;)

For Colemans mustard, take a tin of the powder and if when mixed with water as advised it is too hot (it is for me) mix it with local mayonnaise - a tin will last you months and months (and perhaps months).

Im sure mango pickle is available in the pork shop and a good sized jar was 8L.  I only like crunchy peanut butter so I buy the smooth and put crushed unsalted peanuts in it.

Ive bought crunchy peanut butter from Genpa a few times but they dont always stock it, Sharwoods Mango Chutney and Hp Sauce and I think even Marmite is available from The Pork Shop opposite Tansas, definately worth bringing powdered mustard as a jar of Colmans here is around 10tl
