Dear John,
Thank you for writing to the Club regarding David Silva and his armband which was worn at the recent game between Manchester City and Liverpool.
We strongly refute the suggestion that David was involved in act of disrespect to the victims of the Hillsborough tragedy and we confirm that no action will be taken against him. The black armband he was wearing was too large for his arm. You may have seen him attempt to push it up his arm a number of times as he tried to keep it on. When this was impairing his ability to play, he removed it at the side of the pitch.
All involved with Manchester City share the sorrow of those affected by that terrible day and indeed by the revelations which have emerged in the years following the tragedy. Whilst no tribute can ever heal wounds which remain open to this day, we as a Club gave much thought and discussion to the most appropriate and heartfelt way to show our solidarity and have been humbled by the positive responses of many Liverpool fans to our actions on the day.
Kind Regards
